Can I put a 100A subpanel on a 60A feeder? The subpanel's rating is a maximum, not a requirement — a 100A-rated panel fed by a 60A breaker and 60A conductors is fine and common. The feeder breaker protects the wire; the panel rating just has to exceed it.
