Off-grid and hybrid systems run into the same wall: the inverter puts out 120V or 240V, and the loads want the other one. A step-down autotransformer is the fix, and this collection is built around the two lines that dominate the category — OutBack Power and Victron Energy.

OutBack's PSX-240 is the workhorse: 6kVA, fan-cooled, in its own housing, sized to live behind a Radian or FX stack. It steps 240V down to 120V for legacy loads, balances uneven legs across a split-phase inverter pair, and lets a 120V inverter feed a 240V panel when the job demands it. The FW-X240 covers the same balancing duty in the FLEXware form factor. Victron's 120/240VAC 32A autotransformer does the same job for European-voltage inverters running North American split-phase — we've wired it behind Quattros more times than we can count.

One caution from the field: respect the neutral current limit. An autotransformer balances legs, but the imbalance rating — not the kVA on the box — decides what you can actually run.
