The Enphase IQ8HC (IQ8HC-72-M-US-NFC) is a high-output member of the IQ8 Series — the industry's first microgrid-forming, software-defined microinverters with split-phase power conversion capability for efficient DC-to-AC conversion. The IQ8HC delivers up to 384 VA on 240 V split-phase service and 366 VA on 208 V single-phase service, with broad compatibility across 54/108, 60/120, and 72/144 cell PV modules. Integrated MC4 DC connectors and a female AC connector enable fast, reliable installation on the Enphase IQ Cable system.

At its core is Enphase's proprietary application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), enabling the unit to operate in either grid-tied or off-grid modes. Built in advanced 55-nm semiconductor technology with high-speed digital logic and superfast response times to changing loads and grid events, the IQ8 ASIC alleviates constraints on battery sizing for home energy systems and enables Sunlight Backup — producing solar power during a grid outage even without a battery.

How It Works

Each IQ8HC microinverter is mounted directly behind a single solar module and converts that module's DC output into grid-quality AC at the source. By performing conversion at the module level instead of using a single string inverter, the IQ8HC isolates each module's performance, eliminates high-voltage DC on the roof, and enables flexible system design.

Module-Level DC-to-AC Conversion: Converts a single PV module's DC output to up to 384 VA of grid-quality AC, ensuring each module operates at its independent maximum power point even with shading or mismatched output.

ASIC-Driven Grid Response: The 55-nm ASIC continuously monitors grid voltage and frequency, responding in microseconds — enabling smooth transitions between grid-tied and microgrid-forming operation.

Integrated AC Trunk Wiring: Microinverters daisy-chain on the Enphase IQ Cable using the female AC connector, simplifying string wiring and minimizing installation labor versus traditional string inverters.
