The Enphase IQ8MC (IQ8MC-72-M-US-NFC) is part of the newest IQ8 Series Microinverters — the industry's first microgrid-forming, software-defined microinverters with split-phase power conversion capability for efficient DC-to-AC conversion. The IQ8MC is compatible with 54/108, 60/120, and 72/144 cell PV modules, supports 240/208 V split-phase output, and ships with integrated MC4 DC connectors and a female AC connector for fast, reliable installation.

At the heart of every IQ8 microinverter is Enphase's proprietary application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC), enabling the unit to operate in either grid-tied or off-grid modes. Built in advanced 55-nm technology with high-speed digital logic and superfast response times to changing loads and grid events, the IQ8 ASIC alleviates constraints on battery sizing for home energy systems and enables Sunlight Backup — the ability to keep producing solar power during a grid outage even without a battery.

How It Works

Each IQ8MC microinverter is mounted directly behind a single solar module and converts that module's DC output into grid-quality split-phase AC at the source. By performing conversion at the module level instead of using a single string inverter, the IQ8MC isolates each module's performance, eliminates high-voltage DC on the roof, and enables flexible system design.

Module-Level DC-to-AC Conversion: DC power from a single PV module is converted directly to 240/208 V split-phase AC at up to 330 VA peak, ensuring each module operates at its maximum power point independently.

ASIC-Driven Grid Response: The 55-nm ASIC continuously monitors grid voltage and frequency, responding in microseconds to grid events — enabling smooth transitions between grid-tied and microgrid-forming operation.

Integrated AC Trunk Wiring: Microinverters are daisy-chained on the Enphase IQ Cable system using the female AC connector, simplifying string wiring and minimizing installation labor compared to traditional string inverter setups.
