About Automatic Transfer Switches

An automatic transfer switch is the part of a standby system that decides how fast the lights come back on. This collection runs from 50-amp, 10-circuit Champion units (100950) up through 200-amp service-entrance models that carry a whole house on one switch.

For residential work, Champion's aXis line covers 100A, 150A, and 200A service entrance in NEMA 3R enclosures — outdoor-rated, so the switch can sit at the meter where it belongs. Cummins' RA Series 100-amp gives you 20 spaces of load management in the same NEMA 3R format. On the commercial side, the Cummins OTEC 125A handles 208V and 480V three-phase, open transition, for small commercial services.

We tell every customer the same thing: size the switch to the service, not the generator. A 22kW standby unit on a 200A service still needs a 200A service-rated ATS if you want whole-house coverage. Drop to a 50A or 100A sub-panel switch only when you've picked the critical circuits deliberately.

Service entrance, sub-panel, single and three-phase — the full range is in the catalog.
